About & methodology

China Medical Navigator is an independent, source-linked information site for foreigners receiving medical care in mainland China — 104 hospitals across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, plus how registration, payment, insurance and visa policies work. We are not affiliated with any hospital, insurer or agency.

How hospitals are selected

A hospital appears on this site only if at least one of the following is verifiable at an official URL:

1. It is on an official government list of hospitals providing international/foreign-language medical services (e.g. Beijing's international-medical department list, Guangdong's international-medical pilot list) — the list's URL is cited.
2. It appears in the Fudan University Hospital Ranking's national specialty reputation lists (2023年度（2024-11-16发布，复旦版） edition) — a published academic ranking, cited by name.
3. Its own official website publishes an international / foreign-guest services page or an English site — linked.

Where none can be verified, the hospital is not listed. We would rather be smaller and fully sourced.

How facts are verified

• Every field on a hospital page (address, phone, international department, languages, insurance) carries the official URL it was taken from and the date we checked it. Where we could not verify, the field says so instead of guessing.
• Insurance “direct billing” is marked yes only when the hospital's own pages state it — not on aggregator claims.
• Hospital grades (Grade IIIA / 三甲) are stated only where an official source states them.
• Policy figures (visa rules, pilot programmes, pilot-zone statistics) link to government pages, archived on capture.

What we do not do

• No rankings of our own. Specialty strength is quoted from the Fudan ranking or official lists only.
• No medical advice. We describe process and policy, never treatment choices.
• No paid services. No appointment booking, no referrals, no commissions from hospitals or agents, no medical advertising. If affiliate relationships (e.g. travel insurance) are added later, they will be disclosed on every affected page and change nothing about how facts are sourced.
• No unverifiable statistics. Widely-repeated but unsourced industry numbers are deliberately absent (see standing corrections).

Updates

Hospital pages carry their own verification dates; the site is re-checked against official sources on a rolling basis (see each page's “Last reviewed” line). The full dataset is available as open JSON.

Contact

Corrections are welcome and taken seriously — if an official page we cite has changed, the site should change with it. (A public contact channel is being set up; until then, the site's source registers on every page let you check any claim directly.)
